Pharmacy test strip change

Oct 31, 2025, 17:23 PM

What is changing?

CareOregon and CareOregon Advantage will be updating which diabetic testing supplies (monitors and test strips) are part of their pharmacy-dispensed formularies. Effective January 1, 2026, CareOregon and CareOregon Advantage are changing which brands of blood glucose test strips and meters are covered through the pharmacy benefit.

When will this go into effect for Jackson Care Connect?

Effective November 1, 2025, CareOregon will only cover FreeStyle and TrueMetrix test strips. Existing CareOregon users can continue using their previous preferred product until January 1, 2026. All other brands will not be covered after this date. For continuous glucose monitors, FreeStyle products will continue to be available with prior authorization.

When will this go into effect for CareOregon Advantage?

Effective January 1, 2026, CareOregon Advantage will only cover FreeStyle and Accu-Chek regardless of whether they are new starts or existing users. All other brands will not be covered. For continuous glucose monitors, Dexcom and FreeStyle products will be available with prior authorization.

Meter-restrictions for CareOregon and CareOregon Advantage

Members can get a new meter by having the pharmacy bill us OR by use of a free meter program if they filled a meter in the last two years. The free meter program involves the pharmacy billing the manufacturer directly. Or some can be ordered from the manufacturer’s website. Please contact our pharmacy customer service team if you need more information.

Will members experience a cost with this change?

No, members should not experience any costs with this change. New prescriptions are likely needed to be sent to the member’s pharmacy so they can make this change.
